Homework Calendars - Freebie

This year in Kindergarten we started using activity-type Homework Calendars(count the cans in your kitchen, etc.) But since December, we have started using revised versions of these Homework Calendars (FREE here). We find them to be more academic, more matched to what we are doing/teaching, and an activity that the parents really like.  Plus I like to see "proof" that the kids are doing work at home! We attached a "response sheet" to the end, so we can get feedback from the families.
(See this packet: Homework for Common Core Reading Standards for Kindergarten available HERE...also available for first grade)

Word Cards Freebie-Link

I use these every time we start a new unit. My kinders LOVE to use these thematic words in their writing. I have no idea where I got the ones that I use(I think I bought them online somewhere), but I just found these and they are very cute. I am off to load more cardstock into the printer! It's an Award!

Thanks SO much to Kristina at http://misskristinaskindergarten.blogspot.com/ for my first award! It's the Liebster Blog Award, and it's for bloggers with fewer than 200 followers. She's in her fourth year of teaching kindergarten and has some cute ideas to share! Here are the rules:

Thank the award presenter and post a link back to their blog.
Put the award on your blog.
Pick 5 blogs with less than 200 followers, let them know about the award, and encourage them to pass the award on!

Here are the blogs I am passing the award on to:

Valentine's Day Letter/Word Sort FREEBIE

So in all the rushing to get my copying done for the week, I printed off a bundle of sheets of  sight words that needed to be sorted, for my "Concepts of Print" group (these little sweeties are working on the difference between a word and a letter). So here we are on Friday afternoon with a pile of these sheets and no chart, activity mat, etc....Well, I decided to make one up and I loaded it up on TPT as a Freebie. Let me know what you think!

By the way, I wonder if I am the only one who gets the weird thumbnails with the funky fonts?

Read and Response Sheets

I was inspired to make up response sheets to encourage the kinders to do more writing, but I wasn't really sure how to go about it.  A lot of the things I see online are things that you can tell were written by the teacher and the students copied the words. I wanted something authentic...that were written by the kids themselves. So I tried to make some sheets that could be done by the kiddos after we have storytime. (This also adds a writing piece to my storytime, which is not technically in the same part of the day as my "literacy block".)  Here are some of the sheets we have done in the last few weeks:

Little Penguin's Tale(I don't know why this picture is blue!) Look at Grand Nanny's picture...it TOTALLY matches the picture in the book(she is holding a staff)!
 The Mitten
 The Hat
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs ( ...she wrote hamburgers and chicken!)
If  you like these, they are at my TPT store: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Read-and-Respond-Sheets-for-Winter-in-the-Kindergarten-Classroom

Snow, Snow, Snow!

Finally, it is snowing here! It was hard to sing all those January songs, (and poems), about snowy days without pointing out how bare our ground was! We have had a lot of warm sunny days lately...enough to get the "spring fever" feeling, and then, we had a full moon too! So this has been a wild week! One of my favorite Snow-y books is "Snowmen at Night". Somehow, this was my first year reading it and I thought it was a lot of fun! I did a short search for activities to go with it on TPT, but I didn't find much. Maybe I will create something. I did like this to accompany it though: http://familycrafts.about.com/od/snowpeople/ss/meltsnowman.htm
